No more white walls

For the past few weeks, AnnMarie Agness has been sitting in the basement of UB's Center For the Arts with a paintbrush in hand and a white wall in front of her. To the untrained eye, the wall painting that is beginning to materialize may look like little more than jagged lines breaking apart the whiteness of the wall.

OPINION

"Inspiration, not idolization"

Who do you want to be when you grow up? When I was 4, I wanted to be a Disney princess. I didn't really mind which one; any of them would have satisfied my na??ve little mind. Then when I was 9, I wanted to be Mary-Kate Olsen (or Ashley, I'm still not entirely sure). At 13 it was Shakira, and at 15 it was Miley Cyrus. Did you see anything wrong in that first question?

More than a memory

At 15 years old, Gavin DeGraw decided he wanted to be a performer. The revelation hit him while he was sitting in the backseat of his family's car, driving home from a Billy Joel concert. "If you're dreaming big, it can happen.

"Know when to let go: Love announces a Cobain musical is ""very likely"""

Let's think about Kurt Cobain. This year marks the 20th anniversary of his still questioned death - his joining the 27 Club. He was universally considered the ultimate personification of the bad-boy rebel. His problem-riddled, drug-fueled life was heavily publicized as he and his band, Nirvana, catapulted to fame. His face now appears on commercialized t-shirts worn idly by teenage girls, unaware of the struggle and pain etched into every photograph and corresponding remake. Now, the story of his fragile and unstable life is being pitched to become a musical. In 2012, Cobain's former wife, Courtney Love, shunned all rumored ideas of a musical to one side by stating that some things are best left alone.

ARTS

A PLUSH universe

Right now, a stuffed, multi-colored fabric anomaly engulfs the Visual Studies Lower Gallery of UB's Center For the Arts. It hangs on the wall, surrounded by other bulbous pieces.

"But first, let me take a selfie"

Tilt your head a fraction of an inch to the side, find the right balance between a pout and a smile, lift your cheekbones and widen your eyes before pressing the button, adding a filter and clicking upload. I just searched #selfie on Instagram and 91,357,684 posts popped up in return. If we stop and think about it, that's pretty weird. If social media didn't exist, people wouldn't walk around handing out photos of themselves to others.
