In A League of Their Own

They may not be out to save a Catholic orphanage, but like the comedic Blues Brothers, the local indie-rock band League is on a mission to get their once broken-up band back together.Lacking the black suits, smooth shades and soulful hats, the four rockers of League may not have the same apparel and music as the big screen rockers, but they do have the same heart and drive."We are so focused on getting the band back together," said guitarist Dave Raymond.

New Clemente Album No Home Run

This Atlanta-based quintet likes it shaken and stirred.Clemente, an indie/country/folk/rock/pop party of five who is anticipating the release of their musically jumbled LP "Teeth Measure the Need" can expect a mixed bag of criticism.Similar to the expected range of commentary on the band's latest effort, the tracks on the latest disc pull in too many directions.

A Little Randy

"If these are the rules/ If these are the laws/ I will play falsely/ Cause they're filled with flaws/ I won't play your game/ Cause I think that it is lame," shouts Johan Gustafesson of Randy on their newest album.Randy is a unique and political Swedish garage-punk band that should have their own comic strip of alternative superheroes modeled after their political rebellions.With the massive revival of garage bands, Randy have been buried under the more well-known rockers like The Strokes and The Hives, which has made it is easy to miss such a talented act.

Professor's Play Gets Boost from Polish Performers

Hailing from Poland, the famous composer, pianist, statesman and philanthropist Ignacy Jan Paderewski was a truly exceptional influence on both politics and music.Kazimierez Braun, a professor in the department of theater and dance, has written and directed the department's latest production, "Paderewski's Children," as an acknowledgment of and tribute to the life of Paderewski.The Center for the Arts Black Box Theater, an intimate location for an emotional play, is utilized nicely.

Not Missing Much: 'The Misanthrope' at the Irish Classical

French dramatist and actor Moliere wrote plays the way he lived - with intensity. In 1675, in the midst of a stage performance, he popped a blood vessel in a fit of coughing and died shortly thereafter.The French ideas of irony and corruption in Moliere's "The Misanthrope" comically uncover a world corrupted by insincerity, shallowness and hypocrisy.Under the direction of UB Theater lecturer Fortunato Pezzimenti, the Irish Classical Theatre Company presents "The Misanthrope" at the Andrews Theater through Feb.
