Spring Fest - behind the scenes

Saturday night's Spring Fest left the people who went with a few unanswered questions: where was Jadakiss, and why was there a delay of over an hour before Snoop Dogg took the stage?Jadakiss, who signed a contract last week to play at Spring Fest, dropped out of the concert late Friday afternoon, according to Student Association officials."We got a signed contract with Jada, and everything was good," said SA Vice President Dela Yador.

"Lineup for Spring Fest finalized, Jadakiss confirmed"

The final Spring Fest lineup is set in stone for Saturday's concert.Student Association officials confirmed that Snoop Dogg, Jadakiss, Cassidy and Elephant Man will appear, and will perform at Alumni Arena.After some contract issues with rapper Jadakiss, SA Entertainment smoothed out the kinks.

"Alanis Morissette may take Jadakiss' spot in Spring Fest, according to SA officials"

After The Game recently dropped out of Spring Fest due to "internal camp issues," Student Association officials said they are taking precautions to make sure no further problems arise between acts.With the tentative lineup including rappers Snoop Dogg, Jadakiss, and Elephant Man, SA President-elect Dela Yador said students may see yet another fest variation."We're seriously contemplating dropping Jadakiss and bringing in Alanis Morissette," Yador said.

"Hate mail, pantsing forces birth of Spectillar"

Due to recent controversy over The Spectrum leaning too far towards the liberal side, George Zornick, editor in chief of the paper, announced his staff is going to join forces with the College Republicans to create a bi-monthly, non-biased magazine, The Spectillar.The Spectillar will combine ideas from both The Spectrum and the sole issue of the Pillar, and Zornick said he hopes it will win him over some fans from the Republican community at UB."I know the idea may seem a little weird at first, especially coming from me, but I've been re-evaluating my life, and this seems like step one to making me a better person," Zornick said.

Comprehensive fee hiked for next fall

UB has proposed an increase of $41 per semester in the Comprehensive Fee for undergraduate students and $30.50 per semester for graduate students, according to a March 18 memo from the Office of Student Affairs.The increase is necessary in order for UB to continue to offer its current programs and services, according to the memo.

Simpson gives caveats for tuition hike plan

As the debate over tuition increases continues in Albany, UB President John Simpson has had an active role in trying to implement a tuition hike plan that allows students to better prepare for SUNY tuition increases.With SUNY tuition jumping $900 last year, and the cost of attending UB steadily increasing, Simpson said he agrees with SUNY Chancellor Robert King's plan to raise tuition only at a student's time of enrollment."Tuition that any student would pay would be understood that it would only increase for the incoming student, and then would stay constant throughout their time here," Simpson said.But Simpson said there are a few extra conditions that would have to be in place for him to support the tuition plan.

"Snoop Dogg, The Game, and Jadakiss confirmed for Spring Fest"

Grammy award-winning rapper Snoop Dogg and hip-hop artists Jadakiss and The Game have accepted offers to perform at UB's Spring Fest, Student Association officials confirmed Sunday.Although all three acts accepted offers, Snoop Dogg and The Game are the only two set in stone for the April 30 concert, according to Student Association Vice President Yador.

Third research candidate visits

Strengthening ties between UB and the City of Buffalo will be one of Joseph Glorioso's chief objectives if he is chosen for UB's top research position, Glorioso said at an open forum on Thursday.Glorioso, chair of the department of molecular genetics and biochemistry at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Medicine, was the third of four candidates to visit UB for the position of vice president for research.
