The musical mountain climber

William LaShomb isn't the average front man of a local band. The sophomore biomedical sciences major with a passion for adventure is currently struggling with the decision to pursue a career as a doctor or continue striving to become the next big musician. He compares the decision with "trying to rein in two different horses that are pulling in opposite directions." But the dilemma is not something LaShomb can't handle.

The cores of existence

Security guards at The Waiting Room had to pull bloody concert attendees off each other in mosh pits and watch for "crowd killers" - fans that push other into the pit - more than usual on Wednesday night. The crowd was violent and ready to get down to deathcore. Progressive metal/deathcore band Born of Osiris returned to Buffalo Wednesday night on its tour with Reflections and Sylar. Unfortunately, Reflections was unable to make it to the venue, which disappointed a majority of the crowd - especially those in the pit. On Reflections' Facebook page, fans asked why the band couldn't make it to the show.

Alternative rock group Senses Fail emerged on stage Sunday night to cheers and kicked into their set immediately.

Taking Back Sunday takes Buffalo back in time

Crowd surfers bounced across a sea of people, mosh pits emerged and a lone fan jumped off a ledge into the pit below. Taking Back Sunday's show at the Town Ballroom Saturday night was full of intensity. The sold-out show, which took place on the second day of the veteran rockers' Fall 2013 tour, was everything fans anticipated. 21-year-old Samantha Boyce traveled three hours from Toronto, Canada, to see her favorite band for the seventh time. "No amount of money can keep me from seeing Taking Back Sunday," said Boyce, who forgot her ticket at home and had to buy another.
