For the time being, while home-cooked comforts of Thanksgiving turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes are fast disappearing from refrigerators of co-eds, the unseasonably warm weather savored this last week is slowly slipping away.I feel I might jinx Western New York if I look too long at the national weather radar map.For almost a week now, I roll out of bed, and after checking the all-important junk e-mail and seeing who changed their profile picture on Facebook, I hesitantly click onto the Yahoo!

Cheers and jeers met anti-war protesters yesterday as a sizable crowd of over a hundred people turned out at the entrance of the Student Union for a National Day of Action.

Students brave a night out for a good cause

The smell of fall in the chilly air and the appearance of students trickling back and forth in front of the Student Union made for a typical quiet afternoon last Friday - sans the student panhandlers.Instead of heading for home as dusk began to spread its inky fingers over the horizon, over 25 students held their ground and braved the night as part of UB's annual Night Out, planned and hosted by the student organization Community Action Corps (CAC) to benefit Friends of the Night.Armed with cardboard boxes ranging in size from shoes to washing machines, students bundled up in layers of warm hoodies and fleeces, sporting hats, gloves, blankets and sleeping bags.

Life is not a prescribed formula.Believe it or not, when first coming to UB, I was certain my fate would succumb to being dropped off in the middle of nowhere by the proverbial college bus come graduation time.

"For seniors, Gala marks the last big party"

For graduating seniors, the UB Spring Gala is a little more bittersweet than it is for underclassmen enjoying just another night of fun, dinner and dancing.For them, Saturday marks the end of the road, the last big party before commencement."It's kind of sad because I'm a senior and I'll probably never go to a formal event like this again," Priyanka Giri, a senior finance and marketing major, said.While Gala may just seem like another formal function, in the end, it represents a lot more to students."Yeah, there will be Christmas parties and birthdays and weddings to go to, and you shake hands with a lot of people," Kate Crooks, a senior psychology major, said.

On those days when homesickness hits hard or when patience wears out with a roommate it's hard not to feel envious of those who commute to school from home.
