The Center for the Arts Main Stage Theater was alive with stomping and clapping on Saturday evening as UB Step Troupe hosted their sixth annual Spring Extravaganza.Step teams and dance groups from Canisius College, City College of New York, Cazenovia College, Tufts University, Le Moyne College, Cornell University and one high school brought their A-game to UBST's annual step show and dance competition."A lot of hard work and preparation went into this show," said Jamil Crews, senior African American studies major and treasurer of UBST, during his introduction of the show.
I often find myself lamenting the position and expectations of women in the United States and the Caribbean.
A tall, dark, good-natured man changed my view of an entire country of people. Peter stole the show at the African Student Association's annual Jambo last night and he gave me a glimpse into the heart and mind of a Sudanese man.The crisis in Sudan and the rest of the world's apparent indifference has been a sore spot for me since the beginning.
While the walls of my mother's living room are decorated with framed pictures of her children and grandchildren in different stages of childhood and adulthood, the smiling faces of Bill and Hillary Clinton occupy the prime wall space - the area just above her elaborate window dressing. No matter how adorable her most recent grandchild is, or how many awards and honors my siblings and I win, or how many elections or Monica Lewinskys in soiled blue dresses come and go, the photo of the Clintons hangs high on our wall like a shining star on a Christmas tree.I'm not quite sure when or why my mother fell so deeply in love with the Clintons, but I remember hearing her curse the name of all that is Republican very early in my life in the United States. As a black, immigrant woman working menial jobs to support the youngest of her nine children, she believed she had much reason to be leery of the conservative faction.
Administrators at the University at Buffalo have afforded students the opportunity to put their student identification cards to use in quite a few situations.
It is rare to find a lecture hall in Knox more than three quarters filled on a non-exam day. To have every seat occupied and even have a need for extra benches in the back of the classroom is almost unheard of.This was the scene in Knox 20 on Wednesday afternoon, as Professor Alex Halavais stood patiently in front of his Cyber Porn and Society class and waited for the majority of students to get settled. However, due to the number of students and the nature of his class, there is never really a sense of students being settled in Com 497 - especially not this early in the semester."Every class so far, I've been surprised because the course is online," said Halavais of his unusual class size.
When giant waves crashed into parts of Asia and Africa the day after Christmas, many Americans tuned in to daily news reports about the disaster and opened their hearts and wallets to those suffering.America's wealthiest entertainers donated substantial portions of their fortunes to relief funds, NBC gathered A-list entertainers for a television special in a major effort to raise money, and former presidents George H.
There was an abundance of giggles and fist shaking at the rock, paper, scissors contest held in the Student Union lobby on Thursday. The contest, brought to UB by the College Store and Pi Sigma Epsilon, could serve as two UB students' entryway into the National Collegiate Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament to be held in South Beach, Fla.
With New Year's resolutions still fresh on their lips, many students have found themselves heading to the gym or finally giving that hot new diet a try.
