No sweat for UB apparel

The executive director from one of the two labor rights groups UB joined last spring confirmed that the university is officially in compliance with all the rules and regulations concerning the production of its apparel."UB is in accordance with our guidelines," said Scott Nova, executive director of the Workers' Rights Consortium.

Faculty expansion announced

Four months after President John Simpson said he would like to increase both UB's faculty and enrollment, Provost Satish Tripathi has announced plans to hire 110 new faculty members over the next three years.Tripathi made the plans officially public in an Oct.

Minimum GPA set for grad applicants

For the first time next fall, anyone applying to be a graduate student at UB will now have to meet a minimum GPA requirement, officials from the UB Graduate School reported to the Faculty Senate Executive Committee on Wednesday.Bruce McCombe, vice provost for graduate education, said the changes are being made in an attempt to improve the program.

A new work of art on display in the Capen Hall lobby isn't your regular "David" by Michelangelo.In fact, according to one UB professor, the whole idea behind the 2,000-pound bronze book, whose pages can actually be turned, is to rethink the very concept of public art."Public art today is very abstract," said Frank Fantauzzi, an associate professor in the UB department of architecture, who was the creative director for the project.

"New student rep, UB2020 highlight council meeting"

Jonathan Yedin was introduced on Monday as the new student representative to the UB Council, a high-profile advisory board of administrators and community members to President John Simpson.Yedin, a senior political science major from Brooklyn, gave his first report to the council and expressed his hopes for UB as well as his desire to improve on the work of past student representatives."UB is making all the right strides to becoming one of the leading universities in the nation," Yedin said.
