‘Grow and mature’

UB men’s basketball coach Jim Whitesell is stressing consistency as his team encroaches on the MAC Tournament in March. The 2020 Bulls have been characterized by a lack of consistency, stemming from inexperience and occasional lapses on defense.

‘We have high expectations’

Last season, the Bulls were one of the worst fielding teams in the nation. To help solve the problem, head coach Mike Ruechel brought in Riley Johnson, a former Syracuse University softball player and head coach at Division II Le Moyne College.

Looking ahead: Football in the future

Last September, UB football entered Beaver Stadium as a 31-point underdog to the then No. 15 Nittany Lions. The Bulls didn’t let that deter them: for 30 minutes, they were the better team. At the half, they led Penn State 10-7.

Demone Harris heads to the Super Bowl

Demone Harris is capping off a storybook season with a trip to the Super Bowl. The former UB star linebacker will have a chance to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy when his Kansas City Chiefs host the San Francisco 49ers at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Sunday.

Wrestling coach earns 150th career win

UB wrestling head coach John Stutzman earned his 150th career win and the team won its fifth-straight dual match with a 26-12 victory over SIU-Edwardsville Friday at Alumni Arena. In his seventh season as head coach, Stutzman has helped lead the Bulls to greater heights. He helped grant legitimacy to a program that has often struggled to create a winning product. During his tenure, the Bulls have produced numerous national qualifiers and have challenged for the conference crown.

The UB football all-decade team

Coming off a 31-9 victory over Charlotte in the 2019 Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl, the Bulls are poised to reach even greater heights in the coming decade. Before they can get there, it’s important to look back at the players who shaped the 2010s.

Black Friday Night Lights The Bulls football team (7-5, 5-3 MAC) took to the field Friday in their 49-7 win against Bowling Green (3-9, 2-6). Prior to the match-up, Buffalo became bowl eligible and was looking to solidify its chances of being selected.

Get to know an opponent: Charlotte

Coming off a 49-7 win over Bowling Green, the Bulls travel to Nassau to take on the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl on Dec. 20. The 49ers are 7-5 following a 38-22 victory over Old Dominion.

A quiet leader

Jayvon Graves doesn’t say much. He doesn’t have to. Despite his reserved personality, Graves has filled a leadership void left by 2019 men’s basketball alumni CJ Massinburg, Nick Perkins and Jeremy Harris.

Buffalo accepts invite to Bahamas Bowl

For the fourth time in program history, the Bulls are going bowling. Buffalo (7-5, 5-3) accepted an invitation to the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl, which was announced on Sunday. UB will take on Charlotte (7-5, 5-3) of Conference USA in Nassau on Dec. 20.
