Rewriting The Record Books

It isn't every day that the UB community gets to be a part of something historic. It also isn't every day that a kid who has endured countless obstacles is able to overcome them all and achieve greatness. But both are unfolding, and if you haven't heard about Desi Green yet, here's the introduction. Desi is a junior at UB and possibly the greatest wrestler to ever wear the blue and white.

Conned Contest

Saturday was almost filled with great basketball: St John's won at the Garden on a remarkable how-did-he-not-step-out-of-bounds lay in by senior guard Dwight Hardy; Nebraska topped No.

Sea of Blue Crashes Down on Panthers

It's been a while since Alumni Arena saw a "Sea of Blue," so True Blue stepped up and launched one of the biggest marketing campaigns in recent memory in hopes of getting students out of their dorm rooms and into the arena. It worked. A total of 1,668 students packed the arena, and their efforts helped lift the Bulls (16-9, 7-5 Mid-American Conference) over UW-Milwaukee (16-12, 11-5 Horizon League), 80-65. Despite two quick turnovers on the Bulls' first couple of possessions, junior guard Zach Filzen righted the ship quickly and was unconscious from the field.

Parker Continues to Inspire

Wrestling is an intense sport. It takes mental toughness and the ability to dominate your opponent physically on the mat to be the best. The late Jeff Parker, a former Buffalo Bulls wrestler, gave everything he had while wrestling at UB and gave even more in his fight against cancer.

Bulls Get Zipped

Wings and wows were shared by all in attendance for a dramatic conference showdown at Alumni Arena on Wednesday evening. In the last matchup of a three-game home stretch, the Bulls (13-12, 6-6 Mid-American Conference) lost a nailbiter against Akron (12-12, 5-7 MAC). An impressive effort from the Zips' bench players led to a 71?67 win over Buffalo on Wing Wednesday. Junior guard Brittany Hedderson had a career shooting performance in the game, but the result would not match her success.

Carey's Corner

I love the dunk contest during the NBA's All-Star weekend. I could not tell you which conference has won any of the games, but I can tell you that Dwight Howard threw that ball in and it shouldn't have counted.

Bulls Drop Third Conference Meet

Coming off of its first conference win of the season, the wrestling team traveled to Central Michigan confident that it had turned a corner. However, that confidence soon gave way to heartbreak as the Bulls (8-8, 1-3 Mid-American Conference) dropped a highly competitive meet to the No.

Until You're Blue in the Face

There is nothing quite like standing up with 1,000 of your closest friends and making life a living hell for everyone who steps foot in your house. This is the mentality of those that make up the student section at men's basketball games.

All Smiles Super Bowl-winning Starks returns to UB

When James Starks walked into the press conference room in Alumni Arena on Tuesday night, the young NFL running back's smile was infectious. Starks, a former Bulls running back who won a Super Bowl two Sundays ago with the Green Bay Packers, was grinning ear-to-ear as he sat down with the media before the men's basketball team took on Ohio University. After returning to Western New York a week and a half ago, Starks has been greeted with nothing but love from his family and friends. "I came home, and saw all of the support I had," Starks said.

Bulls Don't Pack Enough Punch to Beat Bobcats

It's hard to believe that a matchup between the two top point guards in the Mid-American Conference on Tuesday night didn't get top billing. But that's exactly what happened when former Bulls running back and Super Bowl champion James Starks returned to UB to sign autographs and greet his fans back in Buffalo. Unfortunately for the Bulls (15-8, 7-5 MAC), Starks' presence didn't bring them any luck, as Ohio (13-13, 6-6 MAC) rode a 74 percent second-half shooting performance to a 76-69 victory on Tuesday night. Let the Playoffs Play Out

If you listen to any commentary about the NBA lately, you'd probably think that the playoffs don't matter that much. It seems like the only thing any NBA commentator wants to do is pin down how many teams can win the title ? and try to keep that number as low as possible. When the season started, ESPN announcer Jeff Van Gundy stated that he believed only four teams could win the title.

Bulls Crush Chippewas To Get Back To Winning Ways

True Blue nation has come to know junior forward Mitchell Watt as Mitchell "Swatt." On Tuesday night, Mr. "Swatt" was in strong form, helping the men's basketball team turn in one of its most dominant performances of the season. The Bulls (14-7, 7-3 Mid-American Conference) dismantled Central Michigan (6-16, 3-7 MAC) in every phase of the game and disposed of them 72-43.

Bulls Drop Second Straight MAC Meet

In the blink of an eye, a day that started with so much hope ended in disappointment and heartbreak for the wrestling team. After the Bulls (7-7, 0-2 Mid-American Conference) jumped out to an early 9-0 lead over Kent State (12-5, 2-0 MAC), they dropped six of their last seven matches en route to a 19-13 defeat in front of a raucous home crowd at Alumni Arena on Sunday afternoon. Head coach Jim Beichner felt the Bulls failed to take advantage of several key opportunities throughout the meet.
