Bulls Upset No.1 Marshall

On the force of two back-to-back goals by senior Bill Norberg, the men's soccer team orchestrated an enormous upset of the Marshall Thundering Herd Friday night, defeating them 3-2 in front of 75 freezing fans at RAC Field.Marshall came into the game in first place in the Mid-American Conference, and ranked 23rd in the nation."It was crazy, it was so intense," said Norberg.

Following the announcement last semester that plans to construct a free-standing student service building had been scrapped, administrators say an alternative plan to cluster the services on the bottom floor of the Undergraduate Library is on schedule.

UB Prof Captures Grief of a Nation on Film

On Sept. 22, UB professor Bruce Jackson hopped a plane to New York City to capture something many of the news cameras had missed: the public grief of an entire city, expressed on 8.5 x 11 sheets of paper, some with detailed information, some just photos of those missing."Every place there was a wall, there was a poster, or just a note sometimes," said Jackson, a Distinguished Professor of English and Samuel P.

New NYSSA Delegate Named to Replace Haumesser

After the Student Association was notified that one of UB's New York State Student Assembly Delegates, John Haumesser, would not be returning to the university this semester, Sub Board I Inc. President and recently appointed Interim NYSSA Secretary George Pape was appointed to the vacant position.Because SA's constitution does not specify the process by which a delegate is replaced before the term is complete, SA President Christian Oliver appointed Pape at his discretion."There is nothing in our books that says how to reappoint," said Oliver.

Incoming Freshmen Faced Higher Standards

UB's current freshman class, culled from the school's largest applicant pool ever, ranks among the most accomplished in university history."Our mean score for the SAT has gone steadily up and acceptance rate has gone steadily down," said Sullivan.UB admitted 68.9 percent of its applicants last fall, down from 81.6 percent in 1997.
