Men's Soccer Captures Shutout Victory

The Bulls relied heavily on sophomore forward Patrick Beckley, freshman Justin Higgins and goaltender Brian Wozniak to post their fifth win of the season as they defeated the Binghamton University Bearcats 2-0 in non-conference play Tuesday night.The Bulls record now stands at 5-5-1, while Binghamton's fell to an abysmal 0-11 with less than five games to go in the regular season."We just attacked, attacked, attacked," said Head Coach John Astudillo.The Bulls first score came on a Mike Peplinski cross to sophomore forward Patrick Beckley, who put the Bulls ahead at the 33-minute mark with his third goal of the season.Freshmen Justin Higgins netted the Bulls' second score - and his first collegiate goal - at the 65-minute mark on another Peplinski pass.UB dominated the Bearcats offensively, out-shooting them 15-7.

Bulls Prepare For Kent State's One-Man Show

With the mention of the word "quarterback," football fans immediately conjure up images of a slender man shielded from human missiles by a pocket of offensive linemen while he hurls a deep pass to his wide-receiver.The image might also include actions like scrambling and dodging, but rushing doesn't usually come into play.Kent State (2-4, 1-2 MAC) has a different perception of a "quarterback," which the UB Bulls will learn when they face Joshua Cribbs and the Golden Flashes tomorrow at 2 p.m.

UB Professor Wins Twain Story Contest

Although UB philosophy professor Carolyn Korsmeyer regularly attempts to bring to life the works of long-dead authors, her efforts have never been quite so rewarding.Korsmeyer beat out more than 700 entrants - and won a $5,000 prize - in the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library's contest to complete "A Murder, a Mystery, and a Marriage," a short story written 125 years ago by former Buffalo resident Mark Twain.Twain initially proposed the contest 125 years ago when he moved to Buffalo, where he was an editor of The Buffalo Express newspaper.

UB student Eric Vinson and his companion, Terrial Streppa, are presumed dead after disappearing from a Lockport bar last Wednesday.Michelle McCartney, a friend of Streppa's family, said the two were last seen at the Ski Lodge bar around midnight.
