Move to Electronic Texts Prompts Dental Student Frustration

UB's School of Dental Medicine is among the first in the country to require students to purchase electronic textbooks, or "e-texts," an innovation questioned by many students because of the high costs of adopting the technology.Incoming dental students were required this year to purchase a comprehensive curriculum DVD containing 120 medical textbooks, along with a laptop computer capable of handling the program's massive volume of multimedia material, including text, digital images and video.The move towards electronic texts is not cheap.

Our government's happy little euphemisms strike me as a little more ridiculous than some harmless writings on the sidewalk.

Political Science Professor Receives Odd Mailing

Slightly bloodied photocopies of a book on the Mossad, one of Israel's intelligence organizations, were sent to the home of a UB professor earlier this month.The package did not contain any suspicious powders or threats and does not appear to be related to the recent terrorist attacks or anthrax mailings, said recipient Erick Duchesne, assistant professor of political science.Duchesne is a public figure who often participates in media interviews and discussions on international relations.

Lockport Car Crash proves Fatal for UB Student

UB student Eric Vinson and Terrial Streppa, a Gasport resident, were reported missing Thursday and discovered Monday in a car which had gone off North Canal Road in Lockport into the Erie Canal.Vinson and Streppa reportedly met in a bar late Wednesday night when Vinson was asked by the bartender to drive an intoxicated Streppa home, although the two were not previously acquainted.
