Creekside Undergrads Permitted to Remain

Contrary to earlier news from the University Residence Halls and Apartments, undergraduates currently residing in Creekside Village will be allowed to remain in their apartments for one more year.Last year, UB admitted the students into the complex, which is billed as graduate-only housing, to ensure the complex would reach full capacity.

In a compelling demonstration of pure democracy, millions of protestors across the world braved cold weather on Saturday afternoon and rallied in opposition to the use of military force in Iraq.Over two million came out in Rome, approximately one million in London, Barcelona, Paris and Madrid, and upwards of 500,000 in the streets of New York City.

Telephone Scam Targets UB Students

Last week, the University Police released a statement informing the UB community of a nationwide scam in which college students are called and duped into divulging their credit card numbers under the guise of a prize trip for four to the Bahamas.John Grela, director of public safety, said he was made aware of the national scam when the parents of a UB student informed the Office of Student Affairs that their daughter received a telephone call from somebody promising her a $780 Spring Break trip to the Bahamas.Grela said the girl gave the caller her credit card number and was charged $780, without winning the trip the caller claimed was sponsored by "Ramada Plaza Resorts."While Grela said no one else at UB has reported falling victim to the scam, Jacob Becker, a sophomore political science major, said he received a similar call but neglected to report it to the University Police."(The caller) said something about me winning some sort of contest," Becker said.

Up until age 12, faith was a no-brainer. My parents, with the help of my godmother, raised me to be a devout Catholic, and I never really questioned much about religion.

Letter To The Editor

You've probably heard that our Homeland Security department recently raised the terrorism threat level to orange (high condition). This week, FBI Director Bob Mueller was quoted as saying that "small-scale attacks" against very public facilities such as "banks, shopping malls, supermarkets, apartment buildings, schools and universities, and places of recreation and entertainment would be easier to execute and would have a lower risk of detection." Not surprisingly, universities and colleges around the nation have heightened their own awareness about these issues.

The 802 fans in attendance at Alumni Arena on Sunday for the UB women's basketball game got to see the Bulls do something they had not previously done all season: steal a win while trailing with five minutes left to go in the game.

Kochendorfer's Hot Hand Carries Bulls to Victory

"The kids talked earlier this week," Buffalo Bulls head coach Cheryl Dozier said. "When they have a teammate that's hot, go to the well until it's dry."And that is exactly what UB did with Jessica Kochendorfer.The UB women's basketball team (12-9, 4-6 MAC) defeated the Bowling Green Falcons (10-11, 3-7 MAC) 72-60 on Wednesday night at Alumni Arena in front of a crowd of 707 fans.UB's offense was spread around but main contributions were made by freshman Jessica Kochendorfer.

An Open Letter to Our Readers

In Wednesday's issue, I published an article, "Service With a Smile." The article, which profiled Danyelle "Big Mama" Pitts, contained a paragraph in which Pitts' physical build was compared to that of "a modern-day Aunt Jemima," which many have construed as a comment denoting her race.
