Legends of the Fall

At first glance, it doesn't look like Student Association President Travis Nemmer has too much to worry about when planning this year's Fall Fest. Last year's Executive Board began its scandalous run with a subpar Fall Fest.

"Mixtape Monthly No. 5: Meek Mill, Troy Ave, Joey Bada$$, and 50 Cent"

The summer is well underway, but the season has yet to produce an anthem as it has in years past - last year brought us "In Paris" and "Super Bass," while the previous one had Rick Ross' "B.M.F (Blowin' Money Fast)." What makes these four summer standout mixtapes so interesting is that the artists seem to be living in that festive, top-of-the-world atmosphere that the youth often desires to be initiated into while still representing where they're from and who they are. This is part of the job summer anthems do.

Ladies Behind the Lens

There are currently over 40,000 institutionalized orphans in Uganda and the number is steadily growing. Last Tuesday night at Hallwalls, Krista Hamlen, a media study graduate student at the University at Buffalo, presented Where We Belong, her recently completed documentary film that explores the inner dynamics of two orphan-related non-profit organizations in Jinja, Uganda. The film provides an up-close and personal vantage point of Ekisa, an orphanage for children with disabilities, and of the Obukuumi Sponsorship Program, an organization that assists families in raising their children at home. Much of the film was shot at Ekisa and includes interviews with the Ugandan women who work there and the two founders of the organization.

Library Legacy

Literature will always outlive those who write it and, in fall 2010, a group of UB undergraduates, along with UB English professor Stephen McCaffery, made sure another piece of work had the same longevity.

UB Late Night Gets a Dirty Mouth

To compensate for Saturday's gloomy weather, UB Late Night held a stand-up event accompanied with complimentary bananas and pancakes to lift spirits and steer away from seasonal affective disorder. Eric O'Shea was given the task of making students laugh.
