UB football (3-2, 1-0 MAC) were beaten decisively by the UConn Huskies (3-2, 0-0 FBS I) by a one-sided score of 47-3 this Saturday at Pratt & Whitney Stadium. In what was their first match on a natural grass field since 2019, the Bulls were unable to reach the endzone, and their defense succumbed to the Huskies’ relentless offensive pressure.

Located in Buffalo’s Outer Harbor sits a truly understated gem, Buffalo’s Music in Arts Festival. The festival consists of a combination of visual, auditorial and performative art exhibitions. The venue is spread out across different themed sections, with more than 10 different stages hosting a variety of local talent, spanning every genre imaginable, from blue-grass, punk, rock, to Afro-House, Techno and more.

Ten UB employees spent $209,187.65 in travel expenses during the ‘23-24 academic year, according to a travel expenditure spreadsheet acquired by The Spectrum. University Provost A. Scott Weber incurred $487.58 in costs while President Satish K. Tripathi did not have any recorded.

As the 2024 presidential election approaches, both candidates have made their views on education clear. Vice President Kamala Harris has been an advocate for public schools, saying teachers do “the most noble work.” She also chose Gov. Tim Walz, a former public school teacher, as her running mate. Former President Donald Trump has repeatedly called for the abolition of the Department of Education (DOE) to give education back to the states.

Following their victory over Niagara Purple Eagles Wednesday night the UB women’s volleyball team (4-9, 0-0 MAC) traveled to Gainesville, Florida to attend the Sunshine Invitation hosted by Florida. Buffalo were unable to come away with a single win, losing both of their matches 3-0. The Bulls have struggled in tournaments, having not won one since hosting the Buffalo Invitational.

After being defeated by the Niagara Purple Eagles in their fall ball opener by a score of 1-5, UB softball (2-1) won both exhibition games on Sunday’s doubleheader against the Edinboro Fighting Scots (0-2) at Nan Harvey Field with scores of 8-1 and 9-1, respectively.

After beating the Akron Zips (5-2-2, 0-2 MAC) 2-0 on the road this past Thursday, the Bulls (7-0-2, 2-0 MAC) returned to UB Stadium on Sunday to battle the Eastern Michigan Eagles (4-4-1, 0-1-1 MAC), winning 1-0 after a goal in the 72nd minute. UB has bested the Eagles in the four games they’ve played since 2019, and are now at nine matches unbeaten this season.

The Student Association (SA) Senate is responsible for the SA budget, allocating the money collected from the mandatory student activity fee to SA functions and student club events. It is also considered a voice for the student body as it drafts and votes on resolutions regarding salient issues on-campus.

In their first conference matchup of the 2024-25 season, UB (3-1, 1-0 MAC) upset the No. 23 ranked Northern Illinois Huskies (2-1, 0-1 MAC) 23-20 on Saturday after overtime, securing the program’s second ever victory over a ranked opponent.

Approximately 35 demonstrators gathered in front of Flint Loop and the Center for the Arts Friday afternoon, chalking sidewalks and speaking into a megaphone in defiance of new UB policies outlining rules and restrictions on assemblies and demonstrations. Those policies are currently under a 30-day review period that ends next Saturday, Sept. 28.

After securing a win and a draw in last week’s excursion to Colorado, the UB women’s soccer team (5-0-2, 0-0 MAC) finished their non-conference preseason undefeated for the first time since 1999. This marks yet another historic accomplishment for the Bulls this season, as they also achieved their first ever top-25 ranking a few weeks earlier and are currently ranked 51st in the NCAA Rating Percentage Index. Buffalo also currently hold a top-20 spot in NCAA goals against average at .429.

During the Sept. 10 presidential debate, former President Donald Trump claimed that women are receiving abortions in the ninth month of pregnancy, calling them “executions.” Moderator Linsey Davis fact-checked the former president in real time, stating, “There is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it’s born.”
