Twenty seven UB dental residents have unionized under the Union of American Physicians and Dentists (UAPD) on Jan. 23 and are soon to begin contract negotiations with their employer, University Dental Resident Services P.C. (UDRS), to improve clinical training, staffing support and salaries.

After UB’s Student Association (SA) derecognized the UB men's and women’s ice hockey teams in Oct. 2024, the future of the Bulls on the ice remained unclear following the end of their '23-'24 season. After seven months of waiting and two months of inactivity, it was announced in December that the two teams were eligible to compete again.

On Feb. 1, the Brooklyn-based indie rock band Real Estate took the stage at Buffalo’s Electric City to perform their greatest hits. Opening for them was another indie band, Grumpy, who set the tone for the night with their unique sound.

On Jan. 31, the Residence Hall Association (RHA) hosted Silent Disco of the Decades. At their first large-scale event of the spring, wireless headphones filled students’ ears with tunes from 1950 to 2025. Each student programmed their personal speaker to play music from a decade that made them feel groovy.

The UB swimming and diving team dominated a tri-meet in Ohio, defeating Mid-American Conference (MAC) opponents Bowling Green and Toledo on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. The Bulls secured victories in 13 events, sweeping the podium with first through third-place finishes in three of them.

Women’s tennis (7-0, 0-0 MAC) extended their spring season winning streak Saturday at Miller Tennis Center with a doubleheader against Niagara University (1-5, 0-0 MAAC) and Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) (1-1, 0-0 PSAC). They won 6-1 against Niagara University and 7-0 against IUP.

After topping the Central Michigan Chippewas (10-11, 4-5 MAC) last Tuesday with a gritty win, men’s basketball (7-14, 2-7 MAC) was defeated by the Ball State Cardinals (10-11, 4-5 MAC) in a contest that saw many mistakes that ultimately cost Buffalo the game, which ended with a final score of 89-76.

Women’s basketball (19-2, 8-2 MAC) defeated the Northern Illinois Huskies (9-12, 3-7 MAC) with a score of 84-58 in the first game of Saturday afternoon’s basketball doubleheader in Alumni Arena. The game was a celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, and marked head coach Becky Burke’s 50th win with the UB Bulls.

The undergraduate Student Association (SA) Senate split SA’s vice-presidential position into three separate roles – each representing advocacy, events and clubs – in a near unanimous vote of 17 ayes and one abstention Wednesday afternoon. The new roles will be on the ballot in the upcoming SA officer elections for the ’25-26 term.

Pedro Almodóvar is a Spanish director known for creating films in Spanish, like “All About My Mother” and “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.” While his short films “The Human Voice” and “Strange Way of Life” were performed in English, “The Room Next Door" marks Almodovar's first feature-length film in the language. In an Almodóvar film, viewers can usually expect themes ranging from motherhood to trans identity, with a focus on the human condition.
