The two Flint Village community assistants fired after attending an on-campus Halloween party have been rehired following an appeal to the University Residence Halls and Apartments.
The community assistants, Marc Stellrecht and Jordan Berry, have been placed on probation and each received 50 hours of community service for their attendance of a party at South Lake Village, which more than 50 people attended and at which alcoholic beverages were consumed in the presence of minors.
Stellrecht declined to comment and said he was apprehensive "due to the sensitivity of the issue."
Joe Krakowiak, director of URH&A, also refused to comment on the issue.
Colleagues of Berry and Stellrecht, however, said they were happy to see the two back on the team.
"It's really good to have Marc and Jordan back at Flint Village," said Ted Gerber, who has served as a Flint Village community assistant for three years.
Gerber said their absence had been tough on the Flint Village, as other staff members had to work extra office hours, although not more than was stated in their contract.
"With such a small staff we definitely rely on their skills and experience," Gerber said. "They're just both great community assistants."
