Women’s basketball (0-0, 0-0 MAC) defeated the Daemen University Wildcats (0-0, 0-0 ECC) 82-38 in an exhibition matchup on Sunday afternoon, marking Buffalo’s fourth consecutive preseason victory over Daemen.
UB shined offensively as four Bulls scored points in the double digits, with sophomore guard Kirsten Lewis-Williams scoring her all-time game-high of 19 points. Shortly behind her was fifth year guard Chellia Watson, with 16 points, senior guard Terah Harness with 15 points, and senior forward Ariana Seawell scored 10 points in what was her debut appearance for Buffalo.
The first quarter opened with Lewis-Williams scoring five points in under three minutes. The Bulls continued this lead with a three-pointer from Watson to bring the Bulls to 10-0 at the first media timeout. The Bulls closed out the opening quarter with Lewis-Williams assisting freshman guard Mallory Daly’s layup, bringing the score to 21-0.
In the second quarter, Daly was able to drop three points from the arc. The Bulls were able to show off their strong defensive skills, letting up only eleven points. The half closed with the Bulls winning 42-11.
The third quarter opened with Harness shooting for three from the corner. Later in the third, Watson had a three-point play off a layup followed by a foul, and sophomore guard/forward Alexis Davis found herself with an and-one bucket. Harness made her second three-pointer, and the Bulls closed the third winning 66-24.
Keeping on the defensive pressure in the fourth quarter, Daly stole the ball, passing up to Harness who turned it into a fastbreak layup plus a foul. Harness stayed on her game, scoring her third three-pointer and the Bulls closed with a victory of 82-38.
The Bulls will open the regular season with the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Sun Belt Challenge game against Troy University (0-0, 0-0 SBC). The game will take place at 6 p.m. on Nov. 4 at Alumni Arena.
