Athletes of the Week

Patrick Beckley of the men's soccer team has been named UB's Male Athlete of the Week for his performance in the Bulls 3-0 victory over the Western Michigan Broncos. Beckley scored the Bulls' first goal on a breakaway in the MAC battle.

The Female Athlete of the Week was given to the soccer team's Elizabeth Pfeffer. Pfeffer scored two goals in three games for the Bulls and leads the team with three goals on the season. Pfeffer ranks ninth all time at UB with 18 goals.



Men's Tennis

The UB men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the fall season Saturday with a 4-3 decision at Binghamton. The loss evens the Bulls' mark to 1-1 in dual meets for the 2002-03 campaign. UB picked up the doubles point by scoring a pair of victories. Nick Zieziula and Randy Rocchio defeated Akshay Rao and Brad Sherwood, 9-7, at first doubles. Rohan Raikar and Joe Popielarczyk earned an 8-6 win over Brian O'Connor and Ryan Rosenthal at third doubles.

The Bulls were only able to capture two singles matches on the afternoon.

Buffalo travels to Philadelphia for the Omni ITA Championships beginning October 24.



Women's Tennis

The University at Buffalo's women's tennis team rolled to a 7-0 pasting of host Cleveland State on Saturday. With the victory, the Bulls are 4-1 in the 2002-03 season.

The Bulls did not lose a set in the victory over the Vikings. At first singles, Karen Maynard defeated Paulina Reyes, 6-0, 6-4. Kristen Ortman downed Audrey Shade, 6-1, 6-2, at number two. Michelle Kollarova rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Rebekah Bicksler. Freshman Helen Lynch also picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win over Amanda Cerny at number four. At number five, Lisa Wittman earned a "double-bagel" win over Mandy Sweeney. Wendy Rose defeated Ivana Mark, 6-1, 6-2 at number six.
