UB student Sebastian Serafin-Bazan died Wednesday after a possible hazing last Friday involving fraternity Sigma Pi.
Serafin-Bazan, a freshman medical technology major, was rushed to the hospital early Friday morning after going into cardiac arrest at 69 Custer Street. The Buffalo News reported this may have been due to strenuous exercise.
UB sources confirmed the student’s death and UB President Satish Tripathi sent his condolences to the family in a statement. He said UB has sources available for students mourning Serafin-Bazan’s death.
“We join them in mourning the tragic loss of a member of our UB family,” Tripathi said in a press release. “If you are struggling, please know that our university counselors are here to provide you support in the aftermath of this terrible loss. As we grieve Sebastian’s passing today and well beyond, it is my hope that each of us pauses to remind ourselves that we can only uphold our humanity by treating each other with dignity, compassion and kindness.”
Pamela Stephens-Jackson, director of fraternity and sorority life, declined to comment.
