Softball (5-12) traveled to Clinton, South Carolina this weekend to compete in the PC Invitational, hosted by Presbyterian College. The Bulls went 2-2 and now hold a record of 5-12.
UB faced Presbyterian College (14-3) in game one of the weekend. The Bulls found themselves down early, surrendering all three runs of the game in the first inning. Junior pitcher Julia Tarantino was able to keep the Blue Hose quiet for the remainder of the game, striking out seven batters over six innings of play.
The Bulls’ scoring came in the sixth inning, when senior first baseman Alexis Lucyshyn ripped an RBI double, cashing in their first and only run of the game. The Bulls did not go down quiet, threatening in the top of the seventh with two runners on and one out. Presbyterian College sealed the victory via back-to-back pop outs by the Bulls.
The second game of the double header was a pitchers duel, with the first and only run of the game coming in the fourth inning. In the midst of a no-hitter by Presbyterian, freshman outfielder Mia Mitchell hit a timely triple to the warning track, eventually rounding the bases via an error.
Lucyshyn was the key in the Bulls victory, shutting down the Blue Hose with a complete game shutout along with five strikeouts.
The Bulls began the Saturday afternoon slate against Queens University of Charlotte (8-7). UB could not get the bats going, and were defeated by the Royals 2-0.
In bounce-back fashion, the Bulls took game two against the Royals, wrapping up their weekend in Clinton with a 4-3 victory.
The Bulls will travel to Lubbock, Texas next weekend to compete in the Red Raider Classic. They are set to play the University of New Mexico (9-13), Texas Tech (15-7) and Manhattan College (1-6).
