Football

Jim Hofher, the head coach of the Buffalo Bulls football program has made the announcement that two junior college players have signed letters of intent with the University at Buffalo as mid-year transfers.

The Bulls will add some muscle their offensive line with the additions of Lucas Johnson (Bakersfield Junior College) and Quenzel Smith (Canisius). Both have enrolled at UB and will be able and eligible to participate in the spring football sessions.

Johnson is a 6-7, 300 pound behemoth of an offensive tackle that will immediately bring some much-needed size to the Bulls offensive line.

Smith comes from the now defunct Canisius football program with four years of eligibility remaining. Smith is another beast, with a height of 6-5 and weighing in at 360 pounds.

Tennis

Nick Zieziula of the UB men's tennis team was named MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week, the league announced recently.

Zieziula and teammate Randy Rocchio reached the quarterfinals of the Milwaukee Tennis Classic over the weekend, going 2-1 in the tournament, including an 8-3 thrashing of the sixth-seeded team in the competition. Zieziula also registered a singles victory.

As an anthropology major, Zieziula also boasts a 3.511 grade point average, making him eligible.

Track

Three school records came down when the women's track and field team competed in the Black Squirrel Classic at Kent State last week.

Biaunca McFarland extended her record in the triple jump with a jump of 41-3. Faith Thompson broke her own record in the shot put with a toss of 44-10.75, and Laura Olson bettered her record by half an inch to become the only UB female to reach beyond the 12-foot mark in pole vaulting.
