Editor’s note: The Spectrum spoke on-the-record to a resident advisor (RA) who requested to remain anonymous. This request was granted due to Campus Living policies that discourage RAs from speaking to media outlets.

University Police (UPD) are investigating a report about three unwanted visitors to UB’s Ellicott Complex — two males and their YouTube audience.

Two college-aged content creators knocked on multiple doors in Richmond Quad Tuesday night, forcing their way into residents’ rooms in the hopes of catching residents in an embarrassing position.

“My residents were pretty freaked out,” a Richmond RA said. “The girls were like, ‘They were in our faces. We were in our sports bras and pajamas.’”

After talking to several residents, UPD knows which YouTube channel was involved, allowing the force to make a “tentative” identification, a UPD spokesperson said. They have confirmed access to similar identifying information, including the creators’ vehicle and other social media.

The UPD spokesperson added that the YouTubers also filmed residents around Sept. 20, though it was not reported at the time.

Although UPD is unsure whether the YouTubers were UB students, they “have no reason to believe this poses a safety threat to residents.” Still, UPD recommends that students check the peephole before unlocking and opening doors to potential strangers.
