Chanse Robinson, a former UB men’s basketball player who left the program last month after a semester-long run on the team, is facing kidnapping and assault charges in a Louisiana court.
Robinson, a freshman communication major, was arrested on Dec. 19 in Ruston, LA following an alleged violent altercation with an ex-girlfriend.
Officers charged Robinson with three counts of second-degree kidnapping, one count of battery of a dating partner and one count of aggravated assault upon a dating partner, according to the booking report.
The arrest occurred after Robinson left the program and returned to his home state of Louisiana for the winter intersession.
“We are aware of the incident involving Chanse Robinson in Louisiana,” a UB Athletics spokesperson told The Spectrum in a statement. “Chanse left the men’s basketball team following the Bowling Green game on Dec. 6 for personal reasons and is no longer a member of the program. We will have no further comment on this matter.”
Robinson allegedly committed battery of his juvenile ex-girlfriend at his home in Louisiana before forcing her into his vehicle and driving her to an unspecified location where a second battery occurred.
Robinson then drove the female back to his home before he “put” two juvenile female friends of the victim into his car and left the scene, according to The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office, in a statement to the Ruston Daily Leader.
The sheriff’s office has not yet released a police report of the incident, as it is an active case.
Robinson, a three-star point guard and two-time All-State athlete, was the first recruit to verbally commit to UB's 2020 freshman class. Prior to signing with UB, he was the fourth-ranked point guard in Louisiana for the class of 2020, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Robinson appeared in one game for the Bulls this season, playing ten minutes in an 86-78 loss to Bowling Green on Dec. 6. He missed time with a wrist injury.
UB Athletics declined to comment on whether Robinson remains enrolled at UB.
Robinson's felony arraignment is scheduled for 9 a.m. CST (10 a.m. EST) on Jan. 19 at the Louisiana 3rd Judicial District Court in Ruston.
