Clubs and cupcakes

"Love Your SA Day" had many of the Student Association's clubs setting up card tables packed with carnations, Hershey's kisses and other tasty treats for the student body.

Several groups brought homemade cookies and cakes from home to sell bake-sale style to raise money for their clubs.

Many organizations viewed the Valentine's festivities not only as a fun club activity, but a chance to gain new members and spread the word about their causes as well.

The women's rugby team, the "Flying Squirrels," gave away small Play-Doh toys and condoms.

Further down the spine, several cultural and religious clubs had their tables set up in Knox Hall. Many students that were about to come out of class would be able to talk to members while in-between classes.

The UB Pre-Dental Association, set up in the Natural Sciences Complex, had an elaborate table filled with balloons, cupcakes and information on their club.

"Throughout the year we do volunteering at the Ronald McDonald Club and Give Kids a Smile Day at the UB Dental School," said Erica Hannon, a junior biomedical student and member of the Pre-Dental Association. "This is definitely a great opportunity to get new members that don't know about our club and to support SA."

The UB chapter of a nationally-recognized Computer Science Club was represented by David Fine and David Cadigan, both computer engineering majors.

"We deal with programming and computers and technology," Cadigan said.

On the table they had a computer with a slideshow of all the activities the club does throughout the year, along with flowers to give away to students.

The annual event was well-received by students, and trademark paper flowers and chocolate were seen in hands all day long.
