Can someone please hire Bill Maher already? For the last two years, Maher has donned the tag of UB's Interim Athletic Director and while I definitely question Maher's thought process in firing Cheryl Dozier and extending Jim Hofher's contract, Maher has been in charge of a program that has seen a collection of UB teams and a handful of individual Bulls athletes climb out of the cellar of the Mid-American Conference to become a solid challenge for much of the MAC. The search for a permanent AD was recently launched nationally, and I have to imagine that it's only a matter of time before Maher's bubble bursts.

Just under two months ago, the Cleveland Cavaliers were 31-24 and comfortably assuming their season would still be going strong. Despite winning seven more games than just over a year ago - finishing with a 42-40 record - the Cavs are without both a GM and without a head coach. After losing to the Nets in a tie-breaker for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, it's chaos in Cleveland. Although the Cavs are toying with around $20 million dollars to spend in free agency to compliment LeBron James, the franchise local from Akron is obviously unhappy about his early summer break and fans can only wonder how long James will hang around the mistake by the lake. I'm willing to bet that James and his Hummer will be out of Cleveland pretty soon - maybe even faster than a group of Spectrum reporters can get booted from a four-star Cleveland hotel.

Speaking of the NBA playoffs, Bill Walton has got to be one of the worst commentators in America, second only to Bobby Mercer. The YES Network got it right when it hired David Justice to co-host the Yankee's post-game show, but YES remains in the wrong in my book by continuing to employ Bobby Mercer - in any capacity.
Mercer's scintillating recount of playing right field in Fenway Park about 900 years ago last Thursday night following the Sheffield vs. Fan production is only the beginning of what I hope will be the end of Mercer's broadcasting days.

The Chicago White Sox are one of the best teams in baseball. Who knew?
