University Police report armed robbery at Creekside apartments

Robbery was targeted and posed no real danger, police say

An armed robbery occurred Thursday morning near Creekside Village.
An armed robbery occurred Thursday morning near Creekside Village.

In a public alert Thursday morning, University Police (UPD) reported that two UB students were robbed near Creekside Village at 12:40 a.m. by three men wearing ski masks. The suspects had guns that were “possibly fake or plastic weapons” and were described as Black males dressed in black and gray Nike sweatsuits.

The suspects punched one student in the head, stealing their cell phone and wallet. The student was evaluated on the scene and declined transport.

The other student, who had their jacket stolen, reported no injuries.

UPD Chief of Police Kim Beaty said that there is “no on-going threat to our community.”

“I want to assure the UB community that our campuses are safe — new evidence has led us to the conclusion that Thursday morning’s armed robbery was clearly a targeted incident and there is no residual danger to our students, faculty and staff,” Beaty said.

UPD will increase patrols near Creekside Village and the Ellicott Complex into the weekend.

People with additional information can call UPD at 716-645-2222.
