Four Student Association (SA) senators — Riya Gaikwad, Laibah Ahmed, Dilasha Thapa and Nicholas Bausch — resigned their positions, leaving only 19 filled seats out of 23 total in SA Senate. SA opened applications to fill the vacant seats in an Instagram post Tuesday afternoon.
In a statement to The Spectrum, SA cited “increases in workloads” and “changes in focus from last year” as some of the reasons behind the former senators’ resignations.
“SA appreciates the time, dedication and effort they put in during their time as Senators in the previous academic year, and we wish them the best in their future endeavors,” the statement reads.
All four senators were carried over from the ‘23-24 academic year to fill the five vacancies left from the ‘24-25 election. Gaikwad, Ahmed and Thapa all ran under the Leadership4U party last year, where its platform emphasized environmentalism, club and student wellness advocacy.
The current Senate will elect individuals to fill the open positions.
Riya Gaikwad, Laibah Ahmed, Dilasha Thapa and Nicholas Bausch did not respond to The Spectrum’s request for comment.
