To The Editor:
The UB Students' Party submits this [letter] to The Spectrum by order of the Elections and Credentials Committee of the Student Association, pursuant to their judgment in the case of Results Party vs. UB Students' Party.
The Results Party alleged that our statement regarding the exclusion of student input into the selection process for bands for Spring and Fall Fest was false and libelous. It is the opinion of the UB Students' Party that the current SA officers did in fact have total control of the selection process, which seriously limited student input. We feel that this process limited student input to such a degree as to make it almost non-existent, and therefore exclusionary. Although this statement met the bar set by the Elections and Credentials Committee's standard for libel it must be noted that there is a difference between exaggeration, hyperbole and out and out falsehood. This statement was made in the context of a political campaign, and it was a statement of opinion by the UB Students' Party.
The UB Students' Party apologizes to the Results Party for their misconstruction, and we also apologize to any other member of the UB community if this statement misled them. Thank you.
