Following their victory over Niagara Purple Eagles Wednesday night the UB women’s volleyball team (4-9, 0-0 MAC) traveled to Gainesville, Florida to attend the Sunshine Invitation hosted by Florida. Buffalo were unable to come away with a single win, losing both of their matches 3-0. The Bulls have struggled in tournaments, having not won one since hosting the Buffalo Invitational.
The Bulls kicked off their weekend by taking on the North Texas Mean Green (3-8, 0-0 AAC) on Saturday. North Texas took an early lead, winning the first set 25-14 with a strong defensive performance. The Bulls were able to keep up in the start of the second set, starting strong with a 7-1 lead, but unable to keep the lead to secure the win the Bulls fell to The Mean Green 25-21. The match wrapped up with North Texas taking the victory with the third and final set with a score of 25-9.
On Sunday, the Bulls, for the first time in program history, faced the Florida Gators. UB struggled to keep up with the No. 16 nationally ranked team on all fronts. In the first set UB was able to keep hold of a close match in the beginning, but ultimately came up short 25-15. Florida took a huge lead in the start of the second set opening with a 14-0 run. The Bulls were unable to recover, losing the set 25-9. Once again battling it out in the third set the Gators got the best of the Bulls 25-26.
UB Volleyball will now begin their Mid-American Conference (MAC) season starting Friday, where they will travel to Kalamizoo to play against Eastern Michigan (4-7, 0-0 MAC). The game is set to begin at 6 p.m.
