Jammed hallways, slippery floors and occasional coughs — this is UB’s ASMR for the winter.
The cold weather has become a common conversation topic among students, transitioning from small talk to a major discussion point.
UB students had plenty to share about the snowfall.
While snow is one of those magical experiences that many people enjoy during its first few days, some students believe that the intermittent snowstorms for the past three months are overstaying its welcome.
“I think winter definitely overstayed,” Inanc Ozbay, a junior biology major, said. “It’s time to go.”
The current weather is not out of the ordinary for the Buffalo climate, even considered slightly warmer than average compared to previous years. Nonetheless, the weather shows no mercy for students that travel to attend class on UB’s campuses, whether as a commuter or an on-campus resident.
Students driving to campus have to wake up extra early, in order to have time to clean the snow off their cars before braving the slippery roads.
“My car slips on the ice. It’s like, not fun and kinda dangerous,” Meghan Davis, a junior business major, said.
For students walking around campus, the “caramel frappe” seeping through their shoes as they slip on the ice and fight against the wind is their least favorite thing about this weather.
Waiting for the Stampede doesn’t make it any better.
Sydney Brooks said that it often feels like a 15-minute wait and when the bus does arrive, it brings many more buses with it, describing the fleet as a “herd.”
“Mind you it feels like -6 degrees,” Brooks, a sophomore chemistry and psychology major said.
Others, including Julie Ketcher, think the snow isn’t that bad after all.
“It’s really pretty,” Ketcher, a senior biology major, said.
Regardless if it’s pretty or inconvenient, Buffalo’s snow is a constant. Buffalonians might as well make the most of these last six weeks of winter and stay warm.
