Get ready for a season of cheesy lyrics as Crime Mob's first single "Rock Yo Hips" off of their latest album makes a desperate attempt to find a hit by way of summer clubs and high school parties.
Their March 20 sophomore rap release, "Hated on Mostly," is shamelessly geared towards the youngest sect of the TRL crowd.
This juvenile group is comprised of male and female Georgian rappers who call themselves Diamond, Cyco Black, Princess, Lil' Jay, and MIG. They had their record produced by Lil' Scappy, who has described "Hated on Mostly" as an "upgrade" from their first album, "Crime Mob."
Overall, none of the songs are very catchy. Plain and simple, and there is nothing compelling enough to dance to on this album.
However, "Hated on Mostly" should at least get credit for having excellent beats. The bass and the introductions to the songs are well written, however the lyrics are just not there yet.
Their last album's big hit was "Knuck If You Buck," and it debuted on Billboard's R&B/Hip Hop Album's charts. The young group appeared to hit their peak in 2004, but is now in their near inevitable sophomore slump.
The idea that these artists are appealing to a younger audience makes perfect sense as the group ranges in ages from 18 to 21, although they haven't penetrated the college crowd just yet.
"Circles," is a trite song about a failed dysfunctional relationship, and "Don't Ya Need" features the females of the group rapping back and forth with the boys in order to provide both points of view.
Compared to the rest of the album, these songs are worth a splotch of attention, but if a person is capable of getting a hold of any other type of music, neither is worth listening to at all.
Unfortunately, Crime Mob's sophomore album "Hated On Mostly" doomed for failure, and based on the title, it seems as though even the artists themselves knew it.
