The UB Women's soccer team defeated Colgate University 3-0 on Sunday.

Following last Wednesday’s victory over Canisius (2-1-1, 1-0 MAAC), the UB women’s soccer team (4-0-1, 0-0 MAC) trounced the Colgate Raiders (1-5-1, 0-0 Patriot League) by a score of 3-0 at UB Stadium on Sunday. The win extended the Bulls’ unbeaten streak to five games, continuing their early season momentum.

Colgate struggled to keep up with Buffalo in the first half, as UB pressured the Colgate backline and had multiple scoring opportunities. Senior forward Jasmine Guerber nearly broke the deadlock in the 13th minute following a shot which rattled the crossbar, but she later assisted junior midfielder Sarah Woods in the 16th minute to open the game score. Woods returned the favor in the 20th minute with an assist to Guerber to extend the lead to 2-0.

The Bulls continued to dominate possession throughout the first half, attempting various long balls up and down the flanks, eventually forcing a Colgate handball in the closing minutes of the half and awarding UB a penalty. Junior defender Ellie Simmons stepped up to take the spot kick and scored, marking her first career goal and securing a comfortable lead for Buffalo going into the second period of play.

Although the Raiders began to push forward throughout the second half, UB’s defense foiled any hopes for a comeback. Sophomore goalkeeper Lexie Thompson had an easy day at the office, only facing three shots on target throughout the whole game. She earned her second clean sheet of the season with this result.

After only winning two matches at home last season, UB has already secured their third home win this season, remaining undefeated at UB Stadium so far. They will look to continue their streak this Thursday when they play away against Colorado College (3-4, 0-0 MW). Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
