UB ranks No. 36 in best public colleges and No. 76 in national universities in the latest U.S. News and World Report rankings, showing no change from last year.
The U.S. News & World Report evaluates hundreds of colleges and universities based on factors such as affordability and post-graduation outcomes. This year’s rankings removed consideration of the six-year graduation rates of first-generation students, further emphasizing the outcomes of students who receive Pell Grants.
The university ranked No. 59 in best public undergraduate business programs, three spots up from last year.
“Focusing our resources on recruiting exceptional students and world-class faculty has significantly boosted the quality of our academic programs and our global standing,” Dean of UB School of Management Ananth Iyer said in a statement emailed to The Spectrum.
"It's gratifying to see these efforts reflected," Iyer wrote.
Other notable rankings include No. 53 in computer science programs and No. 57 in engineering programs. Compared to last year, UB dropped 65 spots to No. 96 nationally in best nursing programs.
UB continues to rank below Stony Brook (No. 58) and Binghamton (No. 73). It stayed above the University at Albany (No. 121) and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (No. 144).

Editor’s note: A prior version of this article erroneously listed the university as ranking in best undergraduate business programs instead of No. 59 in best public undergraduate business programs. The updated version of this article also puts Iyer's statement in an order that increases context. We apologize for this error.
