As of last Wednesday, College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Dean Robin Schulze will end her eight-year tenure as CAS dean and resume her role as a tenured UB professor.
Schulze will remain dean until a successor is found.
University spokesperson John Della Contrada denied that last spring’s protests, which demanded Schulze’s resignation due to CAS budget cutbacks, influenced the decision.
“Eight years is a significant period of time to serve as dean at a major university, so it is not unusual that Dean Schulze has decided to step down and resume a faculty role,” Della Contrada wrote in a message to The Spectrum.
Last April, Schulze released a plan to reevaluate the CAS budget model in response to financial deficits from decreased enrollment and tuition revenue. Two weeks later, the Student Association (SA) Senate voted to call for Schulze’s resignation.
In an asynchronous vote that concluded last May, CAS faculty senate voted confidence in Schulze and no confidence in Tripathi and Weber.
