UB replaces Au Bon Pain with new Bulls on the Run

Campus Dining attributes the cafe’s closure to the menu’s lack of ‘new initiatives’ as Au Bon Pain’s contract with UB expires

Au Bon Pain will close and be replaced by a Bulls on the Run.

As its contract with UB expires, Au Bon Pain (ABP) — located in Greiner Hall — will be closed and reopened as a new Bulls on the Run location in the fall.

ABP opened at the same time as Greiner Hall in August 2011. The bakery café served breakfast, lunch and dinner options, including pastries, coffee, pre-made soups and sandwiches.

Raymond Kohl, the marketing and communications director of Campus Dining & Shops (CDS), attributed ABP’s closure to the menu’s lack of “new initiatives or new recipes” in an email to The Spectrum.

“In talking with our guests, they really enjoy new items and seasonal specials,” Kohl wrote. “Bulls on the Run will have the ability to respond more quickly to customer requests and will be able to feature rotational/seasonal items.”

According to Kohl, the new Bulls on the Run location will have a “much larger footprint” than the current one in the Natural Sciences Complex. Bulls on the Run will sell the same items as ABP and be open on the weekends. CDS is currently recipe-testing new items to further develop the menu.

There are no plans to implement changes in other contractual dining locations at this time.
