College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) faculty will vote in confidence referenda on CAS Dean Robin Schulze, UB President Satish Tripathi and Provost A. Scott Weber, after voting faculty approved the referenda in a special Zoom meeting last Tuesday, April 26.

The vote comes after an April 16 meeting with the same purpose failed to reach its quorum, the minimum number of members needed to hold a meeting.

At last Tuesday’s meeting, faculty members voted on four motions. The first, introduced by geography professor Sara Metcalf, split the confidence referendum into three separate referenda, one for each of the named administrators. The motion passed with 119 ayes, 58 nays, and 26 members abstaining.

The motion to hold a referendum on Tripathi was approved with 168 ayes, 21 nays, and 16 abstentions. The motion to hold a referendum on Weber passed with 176 ayes, 17 nays, and 12 abstentions. The final motion to hold a referendum on Schulze passed with 146 ayes, 41 nays, and 18 abstentions.

Faculty received invitations to vote in the referenda beginning Wednesday, May 1.
