UB women’s basketball (14-9, 7-5 MAC) faced off against the Akron Zips (9-14, 4-8 MAC) but failed to get the job done, as they lost 65-54.
It was a story of two halves for the Bulls, as they went into halftime down 35-14, but battled back to outscore their opponent in both the third and fourth quarters.
The Bulls only managed to shoot 17.2% (5/29) from the field and 0% from three (0/11) in the first two quarters of play, as their opponent shot 42.8% from the field (12/28) and 30% (3/10) from deep. As the first half drew to an end, the Bulls were down 35-14.
In the third quarter, the Bulls came out firing on all cylinders, outscoring the Zips 25-18. This run was fueled by multiple Lewis-Williams and Davis drives to the hoop, with their free throw shooting abilities on display (a combined 9/9 from the charity stripe).
The fourth quarter featured more of freshman guard Kirsten Lewis-Williams and freshman forward Alexis Davis, as the two scored layup after layup, making a few putback tip-ins as well.
The Bulls second-half heroics were not enough, as the final buzzer sounded with them down 11.
The Bulls will next play a two-game homestand, beginning with Northern Illinois (12-12, 5-7 MAC) on Wednesday, February 21. Tip-off is at 5 p.m. The game can be streamed on ESPN+.
