The game marks women's soccer's biggest loss since 2018, when the Bulls fell to Bowling Green 5-0.

Women’s soccer (5-3-5, 2-2-2 MAC) was dominated by Ball State (6-5-2, 4-0-2 MAC) five goals to nothing Sunday afternoon.

The game marks the team’s biggest loss since 2018, when the Bulls fell 5-0 to Bowling Green.

It took only 12 minutes for the Cardinals to get the go-ahead goal from a corner kick, and then another after a Bulls defensive mistake. The first half ended 3-0 in favor of Ball State.

UB had more shots than their opponents, leading 12-5 in total shots and 9-5 in shots on goal. Sophomore striker and MAC leading goalscorer Katie Krohn and sophomore midfielder Marissa Foster had the Bulls’ clearest shots on net, but were unable to put the ball past Cardinals redshirt junior goalkeeper Bethany Moser.

It was yet another defensive miscue on the Bulls’ 18-yard box, allowing the Cardinals to take advantage and net another. It took only 64 minutes for Ball State to score five.

UB’s defense struggled severely, especially in net. Moser made eight total saves for the Cardinals, but senior goalkeeper Rebecca Winslow made none. Ball State netted five on her before Coach Shawn Burke replaced her with junior keeper Emma Anderson in the 70th minute.

With the loss, UB drops to fifth in the MAC. They currently don’t qualify for the MAC Championship with five games to go, including three games against teams that are ranked above them.

Women’s soccer has a chance to redeem themselves when they play again on Thursday, Oct. 12 at No. 9-ranked Northern Illinois.
