The UB football team (3-5, 3-1 MAC) defeated the Kent State Golden Flashes (1-6, 0-3 MAC) 24-6. It was the first victory for the Bulls at Dix Stadium since 2017. The Bulls defense looked dominant, allowing only 164 yards.
The Golden Flashes started the game with a pair of field goals, one of which was the result of an intercepted pass by Bulls graduate quarterback Cole Snyder. Snyder quickly rebounded after two impressive 30-plus yard runs by junior Jacqez Barksdale and fifth-year Ron Cook Jr., ending the five-play drive with a touchdown pass to junior tight end Andrew Schnackenburg to give the Bulls their first lead of the game, 7-6.
After a three-and-out by the Golden Flashes, the Bulls drove down the field. A 28-yard pass on third down put the Bulls at the Kent State one yard line. Cook Jr. plugged the ball in for the touchdown, 14-6.
A ball tipped by Bulls’ graduate defensive tackle Daymond Williams resulted in an interception by senior Jaylon Bass towards the end of the second quarter. The following Bulls possession resulted in a punt.
Bulls’ graduate kicker Alex McNulty, notched a 53-yard field goal to start the second half, tying his longest kick of the season, 17-6. He missed a 33-yarder in the early fourth quarter.
Sophomore running back Al-Jay Henderson scored his first touchdown of the season, making the score 24-6 and a three-score game. Graduate linebacker Joe Andreessen sealed the game for the Bulls with a sack on fourth down; the entire Bulls defensive line got consistent pressure on Kent State’s quarterback during their final possession.
The Bulls will be seven-point underdogs when they travel to the Glass Bowl to play the Toledo Rockets (6-1, 3-0 MAC) on October 31st. The game can be streamed live on ESPN+.
