It took extra time, but UB football (1-4, 1-0 MAC) finally earned its first win of the 2023 season.

Through the first four games, the UB defense allowed their opponents to score an average of 44.5 points per game…good for 260th in the FBS.

Against Akron (1-4, 0-1 MAC), the Bulls finally put an end to their defensive woes, holding the Zips to just 10 points and 253 total yards.

Graduate kicker Alex McNulty converted on a 42-yard field goal on the first possession of overtime. On the ensuing possession, UB blocked an Akron field goal attempt which sealed the 13-10 win for the Bulls.

With sophomore running back Mike Washington Jr. out with injury, fifth year running back Ron Cook Jr. stepped up for the UB offense, leading the team with 62 rushing yards and five receptions.

The Akron defense proved to be just as stingy as the Bulls’, allowing just 256 total yards.
