Women’s basketball adds 3 new players following 5 decommittals

Two freshmen and one transfer committed to the Bulls

Women’s basketball announced the addition of three new players for the 2023-24 season on Tuesday. The move comes one day after UB confirmed that five of seven incoming freshmen recruits decommitted from the team.

The new commits are freshmen Alexis Davis and Kirsten Lewis-Williams and transfer, rising junior Sitota Gines.

Davis is a 6’ guard from Woodbury High School in New Jersey. She scored over 2,000 career points and recorded over 1,000 career rebounds in high school. During her senior year, she won Colonial Conference Player of the Year after she averaged 25.5 points and 20.2 rebounds per game.

“Alexis brings an elite level of physicality on both the offensive and defensive end of the floor,” head coach Becky Burke said in a UB Athletics press release. “Her ability to score the basketball in multiple ways and defend multiple positions will help our team tremendously. I’m excited to coach someone as competitive and driven as Alexis, and it will be an asset in our locker room.”

Lewis-Williams is a 5’10 guard from Lake Norman High School in Mooresville, North Carolina. In her senior year, she averaged 20.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.1 steals per game.

“Kirsten is a fierce competitor with the maturity and leadership qualities of an upperclassman as just a true freshman,” Burke said in the release. “Her ability to score on all three levels is tremendous and there’s absolutely no doubt that we are a better basketball team with her on it.”

The third and final addition is Gines, a rising junior transfering from St. John’s. The 5’10 guard from Zaragoza, Spain and played for the Spanish national team in 2018. At St. John’s, she played alongside UB commit Katie Burton, who also transferred to the Bulls this offseason. In 2022-23, she appeared in 21 games as a sophomore, averaging 4.9 points.

“Sitota is an incredible athlete that brings a ton of length to the guard position,” Burke said in the release. “She’s an elite defender and an incredible transition player. I love her international playing experience and know that it will add a ton of value to our program.”

The three additions join four other transfers that the team announced last week.
