Men’s basketball hires former player Calvin Cage as assistant coach

Cage, a UB basketball alum, is the first addition to George Halcovage’s staff

Men’s basketball head coach George Halcovage III named the first member of his coaching staff Thursday afternoon. The team announced the hiring of former player Calvin Cage as assistant coach.

Cage, a former UB guard, makes his return to the Bulls after spending the last four seasons at Canisius College as an assistant coach.

"We're excited to have Calvin Cage, a former UB Basketball great, join us on staff to help lead the next generation of Bulls," Halcovage said in a UB press release.

Prior to his stint with Canisius, Cage spent two years as assistant coach for Team Takeover 17-U, in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL).

Cage spent the 2018-19 season as the head coach of the junior varsity program at Rock Creek Christian Academy in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

Cage graduated from UB in 2006 after playing 121 career games. He led the Bulls with 18.5 points per game in his senior season, earning him an All-MAC Second Team selection.

Cage ranks 14th in career points for the Bulls with 1,314. He ranks fourth in team history with 221 three-pointers.
