UPD taped off much of Moody Terrace and placed evidence markers at the scene.

University Police are investigating an assault that took place at around 8 p.m. Friday night outside Richmond Quad at Moody Terrace. Police believe that suspects have fled the area, but say that there is “no imminent danger to [the] university community.”

The university is “gathering info from UPD and expects to provide more information this evening,” university spokesperson John DellaContrada told The Spectrum in an email.

UPD Chief Deputy Josh Sticht told The Spectrum in an email that it was “way too early” for police “to provide any details yet.”

Police first disclosed that they were investigating an assault in an alert to the university community at 8:22 p.m., asking individuals to “avoid the area.”

Dozie Ezeilo, a senior pharmacy major, saw first responders treating the unconscious victim after the fight.

“They were on the ground, they were giving him CPR,” Ezeilo told The Spectrum. “I have no idea what his status is, but it didn’t look like it was good.”

Four squad cars and one ambulance stationed themselves inside of the police’s crime scene tape, surrounding the perimeter of Moody Terrace and the Richmond B Parking Lot area.

Police ordered bystanders to stay away from the taped-off area and told those whose cars were parked in the Richmond B Lot to find other means of transportation.

The ambulance left the scene at about 8:41 p.m., its lights flashing. Police detectives arrived shortly thereafter at 9:15 p.m.

A police officer at the scene declined to provide comment to The Spectrum.

This is a developing story. Check back for further updates.
