Men’s basketball (14-8, 8-4 MAC) stormed to a record-setting 112-85 victory over the Bowling Green Falcons (12-14, 5-10 MAC) Tuesday night at the Stroh Center in Bowling Green, OH.
The game marked UB’s fourth straight win, and saw the Bulls take command of the game from start to finish.
Senior forward Jeenathan Williams set the tone as soon as he stepped onto the court, scoring eight of UB’s first 10 points in the first three minutes of the game.
Halftime saw the Bulls secure a 51-38 lead, which extended to a 17-point lead early on in the second half.
Despite their deficit, BGSU fought back to stay in the game. The Falcons were down by just 11 points with 12:12 left on the clock, before a basket from graduate student forward Tra’von Fagan put an end to the run.
With 2:56 minutes remaining, senior guard Ronaldo Segu made a driving layup to give the Bulls a 31 point lead, their largest advantage of the game.
UB’s 112 points surpassed the old benchmark of 106 points scored on the road, which UB notched twice, in the 1973-74 and 2017-18 seasons.
Twelve Bulls found their way onto the scoresheet, with senior forward Josh Mballa paving the way with 20 points and a faultless 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
Williams (four assists) and Segu (six assists) both finished with 19 points.
Freshman guard Curtis Jones secured his second consecutive double-figure scoring performance with 11 points.
UB completely controlled the glass, out-rebounding the Falcons 55-32 and securing 21 offensive rebounds.
The Bulls also had the upper hand defensively, curbing the Falcons to 38.0% from the field and 30.0% from three-point range.
The Bulls will hit the court against the Eastern Michigan Eagles Thursday for a 6 p.m. tip-off at the EMU Convocation Center.
