Men’s basketball announced the signing of 6-foot-5 junior college transfer Curtis Jones Wednesday night, adding a fourth member to the Bulls’ 2021 recruiting class.
In 24 games this season with Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, IA, the freshman guard averaged 12.1 points, 6 rebounds and 5.5 assists per contest. He was named second-team All-Region by the Iowa Community College Athletic Association and scored at least 20 points four times.
The Minneapolis native played high school ball at Cretin-Derham Hall in St. Paul, MN, where he helped the Raiders win Section 4 and Section 4A titles during his senior year.
“Curtis brings great size for a point guard and very high IQ for the game to our program,” UB head coach Jim Whitesell said in a press release. “He comes from a great junior college in Indian Hills, which has developed players like Dontay Caruthers and Justin Moss, and his high school in Minnesota was one of the top programs in the state so he knows how to win. Curtis is a great student academically and we can’t wait for him to join us on campus.”
Due to a blanket waiver passed by the NJCAA in the fall in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jones will still have four years of eligibility remaining starting next season.
After a frustrating 2020 recruiting class that saw the suspension of guard Malik Zachery after he allegedly stabbed a Canisius basketball player and the departure of guard Chanse Robinson as a result of assault and kidnapping charges, Jones looks to provide stability and offensive versatility to the Bulls’ backcourt.
