UB men’s basketball falls to Bowling Green 86-78

Bulls lose second straight in late-game collapse

UB men’s basketball (1-2)  lost 86-78 to the Bowling Green Falcons (4-1) on Sunday night at the Stroh Center in Bowling Green, OH. 

The Bulls attacked the basket in the first half, scoring 18 of its 32 first-half points inside the paint. UB found themselves down 34-32 at halftime shooting just 34% from the field and 55% from the free throw line. 

Through the first eight minutes of the second half, UB adjusted and shot 8-11 from the field and 2-3 from three-point range. With three minutes remaining, the Bulls led 72-70 but couldn’t find the net for the next two and a half minutes as the Falcons began to take over. Bowling Green ended the game on a 16-6 run with more than half of its points coming off free throws. 

Despite the loss, the Bulls dominated the boards with 44 rebounds  to the Falcons’ 33. Out of UB’s 78 points, 44 of those came from inside the paint. UB was outscored in both halves by an average margin of four. 

Senior guard Jayvon Graves led the Bulls’  with 23 points, four rebounds, and two steals while shooting 9-18 from the field. He struggled from deep going 2-8 from behind the arc. Junior guard Ronaldo Segu provided a spark of intensity in the backcourt with 22 points and five rebounds on 8-13 shooting in 39 minutes. 

Junior forward Jeenathan Williams continued his strong season with 19 points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal in 33 minutes. 

Bowling Green’s fifth-year guard Justin Turner led all scorers with 33 points while adding four rebounds, three assists, and one steal. He shot a perfect 15-15 from the free throw line. Senior forward Daeqwon Plowden scored eight points and grabbed ten rebounds while shooting 2-6 from the field. 

The Bulls will look to bounce back after two straight losses when they travel to Oxford, OH to face Miami (OH) on Dec. 15 at 5:30 p.m.
