Dear Editorial Board of The Spectrum,
Thank you for highlighting the need for action in support of transgender, genderqueer and gender non-binary community members at UB in your April 24, 2016 editorial. We are proud of the rich spectrums of diversity that makes up our UB community. Co-chaired by the Vice Provost for Equity and Inclusion and the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and consisting of representatives from offices and departments across campus, the Working Group for Transgender Inclusion (WGTI) was formed in February 2016 to develop policies, identify practices and issue recommendations for the full inclusion of transgender, genderqueer and gender non-binary students, faculty and staff at UB.
The group is currently focusing on six key areas:
- Preferred Name Policies
- Physical Facilities (gender-inclusive restrooms, locker rooms and housing)
- Student Services and Resources
- Employee Services and Resources
- Campus Education and Campus Climate
- External Communication and Advocacy
In regards to your specific call for gender-inclusive restrooms, the group is currently discussing potential recommendations that will allow us to address current and long-term needs.
More information about WGTI is available here: http://www.buffalo.edu/equity/obtaining-assistance/lgbtq-information-and-support/workinggroupfortransgenderinclusion.html. Any questions may be directed to well-UBLGBTQ@vpsa.buffalo.edu.

UB Working Group for Transgender Inclusion
