Winter storm 'Knife' cuts some CFA performances

A rundown of closed, still scheduled and postponed performances

The Center for the Arts’ events calendar was full of plays and events this week, many of which were delayed, canceled or postponed due this week’s massive lake effect storm.

The Department of Theatre & Dance’s production of “The Man Who Would Be King,” was canceled Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening due to weather. Saturday's performances at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre remains on schedule along with a final show Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

The Emerging Choreographers Showcase in the Katherine Cornell Theatre in UB’s Ellicott Complex was also canceled Thursday evening. The show will have performances Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., respectively.

The CFA’s Mainstage Theatre was preparing for the Richmond Ballet and Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra’s “The Rite of Spring.” The show has been postponed until a yet-to-be-determined date in 2015.

Saturday’s performance by Boyz II Men at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday’s The Brian Setzer Orchestra Christmas Rocks Extravaganza at 7:30 in the Mainstage Theatre remain on schedule.

Performances weren’t the only things affected by the weather. The Medium is the Monster Art Exhibition’s opening reception was rescheduled to Dec. 4 from 5-7:00 p.m. The reception was supposed to take place Thursday Nov. 20 from 5-7:00 p.m. in the Lower Gallery. The exhibit will open for visitors on Friday, Nov. 21 and will remain open until Dec. 6.

The CFA is offering refunds for canceled performances. Exchanges for other performances during the run of the Emerging Choreographers Showcase and “The Man Who Would Be King” are also available.
