It took the women’s soccer team 493 minutes to give up its first goal of the season. The Bulls allowed just five goals in their first six games. Unfortunately for Buffalo, all five of those goals occurred in one game.
No. 3 Virginia Tech (8-0-0) defeated the Bulls (4-1-1) 5-0 Friday, handing the team its first loss of the season.
The team did, however, set a new program record in the game. By holding Virginia Tech scoreless in the first 23 minutes, the Bulls set a new scoreless streak record (493 minutes).
The Bulls surrendered their first goal of the season in the 23rd minute to Murielle Tiernan off a header. The first goal opened the onslaught on the Bulls as Virginia Tech continued to put four more past the Bulls. Virginia Tech outshot Buffalo 23-2.
Freshman goalkeeper Laura Dougall missed the game due to injury. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Moore started her first career game and allowed five goals on 10 shots.
The Bulls continue their season this when they travel to Cornell University (3-1-0) Friday. The game is set for 4 p.m.
